Jabal al-Nour, meaning “The Mountain of Light”, is one of the most revered historical sites near Mecca. Rising about 640 meters above sea level, this mountain holds a special place in the heart of every Muslim — because it houses Ghar Hira (the Cave of Hira), where the first revelation of the Qur’an was sent to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

🌌 A Place of Revelation
It was in the solitude of Ghar Hira, a small cave near the peak of Jabal al-Nour, that the Prophet ﷺ would retreat to reflect and worship Allah in seclusion. During one such retreat, Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) appeared with the first words of divine revelation:
"Read in the Name of your Lord who created..."
[Surah Al-‘Alaq 96:1]
This moment marked the beginning of the prophethood and the start of Islam.
Located approximately 4 km from Masjid al-Haram, in the district of Al-Hijrah
Climb time: Around 45 minutes to 1 hour (steep and challenging)
Best visited early in the morning or near Maghrib (cooler temperatures)
Wear sturdy shoes, carry water, and prepare for a physical climb
