Jabal al-Nour, meaning “The Mountain of Light”, is one of the most revered historical sites near Mecca. Rising about 640 meters above sea level, this mountain holds a special place in the heart of every Muslim — because it houses Ghar Hira (the Cave of Hira), where the first revelation of the Qur’an was sent to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
🌌 A Place of Revelation
It was in the solitude of Ghar Hira, a small cave near the peak of Jabal al-Nour, that the Prophet ﷺ would retreat to reflect and worship Allah in seclusion. During one such retreat, Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) appeared with the first words of divine revelation:
"Read in the Name of your Lord who created..."
